Picture this: it’s February and you’re walking through the Detroit Boat Show. You’re in heaven as you stroll along, gazing out over the boats you’d typically think you’d find at this show such as ski boats, deck boats and pontoons, but rising above the cushions and Bimini tops of the smaller boats are these huge, gorgeous yachts.
These larger-than-life boats are exactly what you’ve come looking for.
There’s a huge space dedicated to Skipper Bud’s and the Tiara Sport 38 LS stands apart from the rest of the lineup as the crown jewel of their display. It stops you in your tracks.
There’s an immense line around the corner to get on the luxury sport boat. Everybody’s talking about it and you can still hear them even as they’re walking away. People are trying to circle back through the display to get another look.
You’re immediately sold. The Tiara Sport 38 LS is the one.
Star Of The Show
Believe it or not, this actually happened to Jerry Sheppard, a long-time Great Lakes boater from Michigan, when he went to the Detroit Boat Show earlier this year. After falling in love with the 38 LS, he bought it right then and there at the boat show from Skipper Bud’s.
Tom Walker, the manager of Skipper Bud’s, attested that it was particularly exciting to sell a boat that quickly at a show because he would typically have to meet with people around eight times before they made up their minds. But this wasn’t the case with Sheppard. With the help of Skipper Bud’s excellent staff, he soon decided.
“They were really knowledgeable about the product,” shared Sheppard. “They were able to demonstrate the features to me, so that was really helpful.”
Rotating Dinette
Tiara Yachts struck gold when they designed the layout of the 38 LS. One of the most unique and striking features of the layout is that the rear lounge can be rotated to be either rear-facing or front-facing with the flip of a switch.
At the Detroit Boat Show, Skipper Bud’s would demonstrate this particular feature and every time they did, Walker said the people would go absolutely nuts for it. It was a real crowd pleaser that always left the audience in joyous disbelief.
Sheppard also said that one of the things that sold him on the boat was its layout.
“I like the center console design and I like the aft of the boat with the U-shaped dinette and how the dinette spins around,” added Sheppard.
Behold The Luxury
The center console layout helps to provide an intimate connection with the water, and Tiara decided to offer expanded bow seating and raised dock access to the port side which provides a luxurious social seating arrangement unlike any other.
Being connected to your friends and family will never be a problem because the walk-around capabilities of 38 LS are ideal. You can access the bridge and lounge seats from both port and starboard entries, not to mention the island-style outdoor galley is also comfortably convenient.
Then get ready for some serious relaxation with the exterior grilling and dining alongside comfortable lounging with the convertible sun pad, stylish cabin and the aft cockpit areas. Plus, the wrap-around forward bow seating gives you even more space while the full beam hardtop provides shade for the entire helm area with the three-wide seating center helm.
Perfect Day Boat
“The family is ecstatic,” said Sheppard. “They’re very excited about the boat.”
With a family of about 12 people including their kids and grandkids, Sheppard bought the 38 LS because he felt it would be the perfect day boat to accommodate his entire family. They live on Lake Erie in Michigan and there are plenty of places that are perfect for day trips.
He’s owned several boats before and the last boat he owned was a 36 Tiara Sovran from 2004. Sheppard had that boat for about four years before selling it three years ago. He said it was more of a cruising cabin boat and they found they really didn’t spend the night in the boat very often.
That’s one of the things that attracted him to the Tiara Sport. It’s an outstanding day boat that still has the capability for a couple to use it overnight or over the weekend since it has a cabin with a bed and a head. However, the main thing for Sheppard is that it’s the ultimate day boat which means he doesn’t need too much space below and would rather have more deck space up top. He also mentioned the cabin comes in handy for his small grandkids to get them out of the heat from time to time and to change diapers.
Sheppard also commented that he liked the design of the hull shape because it promotes safety, which is always a high priority, especially when there are small children involved.
First Of Its Kind
The Tiara Sport was awarded the 2018 Progressive Insurance Miami International Boat Show NMMA Innovation Award because of the ingenious layout and design. Tiara only recently launched the Tiara Sport brand last autumn, making the 38 LS the first of its kind.
It’s what they are calling a modern reinterpretation of luxury sport yachting. Tiara’s plan is to have seven models in the LS series, ranging from 29 to 42 feet. Not only is the 38 LS the first of the new Tiara Sport brand, but it’s also the first Tiara ever to feature outboard power.
With three 350hp Yamaha’s on the back, Walker explained the 38 LS has exceptional performance. The outboard motors were also a factor when Sheppard decided to buy the boat.
“I like the power of the outboards,” stated Sheppard. “They are very quiet and they’re efficient. They are clean and environmentally friendly.”
Sleek and stylish, the Yamaha outboard engines provide the ideal power for all your cruising needs. In addition, the boat handles marvelously. The glass cockpit integrates electronics such as the Garmin Marine Navigation Systems which help the captain command the vessel with ease, and there’s an optional Yamaha Helm Master Joystick Steering that provides additional control when underway or docking.
The 38 LS has a fuel capacity of 331 gallons which means you’ll have a generous range to play with before having to fill up again. The boat cruises leisurely in the mid-30 mph range and reaches a top speed of 50 mph.
An Exceptional Vessel
It’s not difficult to tell that Tiara created something special when they crafted the 38 LS. The boat speaks for itself, having already won the NMMA Innovation Award and being purchased on-the-spot at the Detroit Boat Show. It’s with great anticipation and excitement that we await Tiara Sport to introduce the rest of the lineup on the LS series.
No doubt Sheppard looks back fondly on that day at the Detroit Boat Show when he fell in love with the 38 LS. After all, who could blame him? The Sheppard family is excited about their new family day boat and it’s with further excitement that they anticipate all the wonderful memories yet to come on their exceptional vessel.
