All-New Regal 38 XO

To take command by definition is to exercise a dominating influence or direct authority and Regal Boats has clearly taken charge with its latest offering in the company’s revolutionary XO Series. While some manufacturers simply convert a popular sterndrive model to also work for outboard applications, Regal engineers took a fresh approach with the all-new 38 XO. This beautiful 38-foot boat was specifically designed for outboard power and it is taking the industry by storm after being released earlier this year.

Under development for approximately two years, the 38 XO follows in the highly successful wake of Regal’s 38 Grande Coupe that launched last fall. However, Regal has made it clear the 38 XO features an entirely new running surface design and outboard platform that is powered by triple outboards.

“What we do at Regal is we come up with a clean sheet design and start off by looking at the features that we want the boat to have,” explains Regal Boats CEO and President Duane Kuck. “This boat has a spacious floorplan with key features like a queen bed forward with a king bed aft along with a separate head and shower.”

Game-Changing

According to Kuck, the 38 XO is considered a true game-changer, the first to command a new segment in the marketplace. “Our new 38 XO outboard-powered sport yacht is truly one-of-a-kind, delivering unprecedented performance with luxury cruising comfort. Owners will cruise with little to no bow rise from 20 to 40 mph while enjoying top speeds of almost 50 mph. In addition, the 38 XO sports a premium-packed interior featuring a full cabin and cockpit designed to maximize family entertainment.”

Outboard Power

Part of its clean sheet thinking included going after the outboard segment of the boating industry, which is gaining in popularity across all boating segments. Noticeably quieter while opening up layout space for storage and extra seating are two major advantages, but the biggest comes from the new outboards themselves that are reaching new heights of efficiency every day.

“There are certain markets where outboard power is preferred and we designed this 38 to run well with triple 300s,” adds Kuck while talking with GLB at the official launch. “You get all of the great features you would get with the sterndrive model but now with outboard power. At Regal we call it the power of choice and your Great Lakes boaters will love it.”



Great Lakes Preferred

Regal Marine Industries is a family-owned, privately-held boat manufacturer that was founded in 1969. While the global manufacturer is based in Florida, Kuck understands the importance of the Great Lakes region and is especially excited to see how this outboard version will do up north, where outboard power is more common. In fact, not only does Kuck appreciate the Great Lakes, it’s actually where the CEO is planning to vacation this summer with his wife Cindy.

“My boating of choice this year will be on the Great Lakes,” says Kuck. “We’re starting in the Thousand Islands.”

The Thousand Islands are a group of more than 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of the U.S. and Canada. They stretch for about 50 miles on St. Lawrence Seaway, but the largest clustering of islands falls between Cape Vincent and Alexandria Bay in the United States and Kingston and Rockport in Canada, and Kuck is looking forward to exploring the area on one of the new models.

Let’s Get Comfortable

Regal officially launched its all-new outboard-powered 38 XO Sport Yacht at the Miami International Boat Show in February as the third in the company’s XO Series. Some key design features and innovations include a spacious salon and convertible entertainment area with 360-degree panoramic views afforded by single-piece windows, including a clever push-button portside venting window and enclosure doors that open and expand into the seamless, single-level cockpit sole with L-shaped seating. Other notable cockpit features include fully customizable displays with integrated systems and navigation controls; a vinyl-wrapped dash; and a retractable, full-beam hardtop.

There is room for relaxation embracing all sides of the outboards, thanks to the low-to-the-water design of the wraparound swim platform. Another plus sure to appeal is the spacious, six-position foredeck sun lounger.

The split galley offers indoor and outdoor storage with sink, optional smokeless grill, two-burner stove, microwave, refrigerator and freezer.

Two-berth design includes a best-in-class forward stateroom with California queen bed featuring built-in storage, plus an extra spacious aft stateroom featuring optional twin bed or king (slider) configuration including hand-crafted settee storage and dresser. Full-size head features handcrafted cabinetry, solid surface countertops and separate full-size shower.
