COLUMBUS -- The state Controlling Board OK'd funding Monday for separate efforts to monitor streams for toxic algae and invasive Asian carp.
The lawmaker panel signed off on $548,900 requested by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to install 14 stream gauges in Lucas, Seneca, Henry, Hancock and Paulding counties.
According to documents, "long-term data on nutrient and sediment loads and stream flow are needed to assess whether (farm conservation practices and state policy changes) will result in reductions in total phosphorus and ... improvements in water quality."
