Indiana show has new August dates

The 35th annual Michigan City (Ind.) In-Water Boat Show will be staged earlier in the boating season this year. The new dates are Aug. 7-10. Since its inception in 1980, the show has traditionally been held just prior to Labor Day weekend. A major reason for the change is to make the show more convenient for visitors who have historically attended from as far away as Ohio and Wisconsin. Show manager Ken Alvey said the number of visitors from beyond the Indiana-Illinois-Michigan area has declined in recent years and organizers are hoping the change will reverse that trend. “Lifestyles and timetables have changed over the years, and we see the need to adapt to them,” Alvey said in a statement. ”For example, in so many locations, schools now start before Labor Day, virtually ending the summertime for many families. Holding the boat show earlier in August means it will still be vacation time … and we’re convinced it will boost attendance.” In addition to the date change, Alvey said there are plans to significantly increase the show’s features and entertainment. “We want to make it as much a summer rendezvous for boaters as a showing of the latest in boats and equipment,” he added, “and since many boats are purchased at the show each year, buyers will have more summertime left to use their new boats.” The Michigan City show is the oldest and largest in-water show annually held on Lake Michigan. The docks boast nearly 300 boats as large as 60-foot-plus motoryachts, along with adjacent land-side displays of everything from ski boats to paddleboards. http://www.tradeonlytoday.com/2014/06/indiana-show-august-dates/
