On April 23, 1906, the Duluth News Tribune reported that James Owen had been appointed captain of the steamer Edwin F. Holmes.
The Edwin F. Holmes later was renamed the E.C. Collins, and then the J.B. Ford. After more than 100 years on the Great Lakes, the ship is slated to be towed to a Duluth scrapyard today.
