PLATTSBURGH, NY —Plattsburgh Mayor Jim Calnon envisions an expanded municipal marina in the city's future. An expanded marina, he said he thinks, will bring more seasonal guests, short-term tourists and activities for the region's residents. City Engineer Kevin Farrington submitted a request at Thursday's City Council meeting to complete an environmental quality review of the marina, a necessary step before plans can go to contractors. Council members approved the request. The marina currently has 34 dock slips and 25 moorings, according to its website. City leaders hope the expansion will be attractive to short-term guests as well as residents. Calnon said expanding the marina is one of many steps in motion to bring major changes to the Plattsburgh area. "We really want this to be an off ramp to the lake," Calnon said. "People will stop in Plattsburgh, whether they're boating from Canada or Burlington or Ticonderoga. Stop in Plattsburgh. Spend some time here and spend some money here." In addition to building the economy, Calnon said he and the City Council are focused on improving quality of life for the people who live in Plattsburgh. Read more:
