One year ago this month, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers debuted a long-awaited study that outlined multiple ways to keep highly destructive Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.

The most grandiose plan, the one preferred by scientists, is an $18.4 billion separation of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River watersheds.

While Congress has not made a decision, to the dismay of its critics, scientists have discovered more eDNA, or environmental DNA, indicating the presence of the invasive species in the Chicago area. Some bits and pieces were less than a block from Lake Michigan in the Windy City’s downtown.
