SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESBrooklyn Center, MN- Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! is pleased to announce that the Conesus Lake Association (CLA) of New York has been selected as the August Partner in Action. CLA is an extremely active partner in prevention and education about aquatic invasive species (AIS) in the Finger Lakes area. "Many dedicated people are contributing to these efforts. We are thrilled to be featured as a Partner in Action," said Scott Proctor, a director of the Conesus Lake Association. Working cooperatively with Livingston County Planning Department, Cornell Cooperative Extension and SUNY Geneseo, they self funded a watercraft steward program that both inspects boats and educates boaters about the threat of AIS. This year alone, they have contributed over $10,000 to place staff at boat launches and have inspected over 2,800 boats entering and exiting the lake. The CLA, working with NY Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Office of Parks, has built and installed 6 Aquatic Invasive Species Disposal Stations at various boat launches around the lake. The disposal stations clearly direct boaters to Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! and Clean, Drain, Dry boats and equipment every time. They have been very involved with getting the word out to the local community and have trained over 4 dozen volunteers to watch for potential invaders. They also work closely with local fishing clubs and Nature Centers and discuss the importance of using the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! Clean Drain Dry method. The Conesus Lake Association is a very passionate and dedicated group that has been working tirelessly to stop the spread of invasive species. They are a a great example of a Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! Partner in Action.
