New reefs helping ancient fish thrive in St. Clair River

July 2014 uncategorized GLB Admin
by Nicole Hayden, Gannett Michigan Workers are placing rocks in the St. Clair River to build reefs that will provide a habitat for spawning fish. The reef being constructed near East China Township is one of two planned for the river this year. The $3.5-million construction project is an effort to restore the populations of lake sturgeon, walleye and lake whitefish. The funding also will cover assessment of the project to measure the effect of the reefs on fish populations. http://www.freep.com/article/20140706/NEWS06/307050098/St-Clair-river-fish
