FORT ERIE - Niagara Parks wants to hear from the public on the future of its marina in Fort Erie.
The NPC has announced it will undertake a "visioning" exercise, seeking public input of plans for a "possible enhancements" at Miller's Creek Marina.
“The Niagara Parks Commission remains committed to the Miller’s Creek Marina and wishes to pursue a plan for its future use that is consistent with our stewardship role and public mandate,” NPC Chairwoman Janice Thomson said in a statement.
“We look forward to hearing from the public and gaining their insights, as we begin work on preparing a future vision of the marina that will ensure its long-term viability and enjoyment by the public.”
A public information centre will be held Tuesday, June 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Old Fort Erie Vistor Centre, located at 350 Lakeshore Road, in Fort Erie.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet with the NPC project team and provide feedback and comments to the Commission as it begins to chart a vision for the future of the Marina, NPC officials say.
Draft principles and objectives will be presented to the public and stakeholders during the meeting.
Those principles focus on:
- maximizing water-based recreation and related amenities;
- enhancing public access and activities along the Niagara River shoreline;
- ensuring financial sustainability and providing community benefit.
Results from the visioning exercise will be used to assist NPC as it begins prepares to embark on a Request for Proposals (RFP) process to improve the site.
Miller's Creek Marina is located along the Niagara River near Cairns Crescent, in Fort Erie.
The land was purchased by the parks commission in 1957. The site was developed into a small marina facility in 1965.
