Boating ban lifted in Finger Lakes region

May 2014 uncategorized GLB Admin
(AP) -- A special state of emergency and a ban prohibiting boat traffic have been lifted on two upstate New York lakes. Boaters are free to navigate the waters of Canandaigua and Honeoye lakes after the lifting of the ban at noon Tuesday. The Yates County Sheriff's Office also prohibited motorized boat traffic on Keuka Lake last week and over the holiday weekend because of dangerous floating debris from recent flooding in and around Penn Yan. Authorities say water levels on the lakes continue to recede, and runoff waters flowing into them have decreased a lot. Boaters are still being advised to watch for storm debris and other large items in the water. A 5 mile per hour "no wake" rule remains in effect on Seneca Lake.
